Florida Sky At Sunset

Well, I'm halfway through my temporary night job, and brother, am I beat! It's been something like 30 years since I've done much in the way of maid work, at least on the scale I'm doing now, and I know it's not something I could do on a daily basis anymore!

Friday, I cleaned a large surgical center, including three operating rooms, and a waiting room, offices, procedure rooms, and on an on....and also did a smaller hand surgery clinic across the hall. (I also did the hall. :-) ) The lady who owns the business has been doing this for years, and is very fast. I, on the other hand, am very slow, and though I'm thorough and I think I'm doing a good job, can't really earn enough to compensate for the amount of time it takes me. That day, I also worked from 10 am until 4 pm at my regular job at a furniture store. So, in essence, I stood and walked and did pretty hard work for the better part of 13 hours. At 20, this would've been hard. At nearly 55, it's excruciating! On Saturday I worked at the furniture store all day, and Sunday, well, I pretty much collapsed!

Tomorrow I will be back at the surgical center, but only doing the bigger side by itself. Tuesday will be both sides again. Hopefully, I will be done before 9 pm. I was there until after 11 Friday night! So, I did try to catch up with you all today, but for the rest of the week it might be a little hard. My birthday is next Sunday. Pray I live that long, lol! :-D

This pic was taken the other day outside the surgical center. The skies have been phenomenal lately!

A Little Support, Please

Like mighty arms coming out of the river, the support pilings of the Dunlawton Bridge are massive and powerful looking. It's both awe-inspiring, and a bit intimidating to be below this giant structure, with cars noisily rolling back and forth from Port Orange's mainland to the beachside of Daytona Beach Shores.

Sunlight On Red

This scene was photographed over a year ago at Sugar Mill Gardens. This is one of my favorite "subjects"- the tree with the really interesting fungus, and the way the sunlight dances across the leaves and cones of this beautiful plant. I tried many times to get a good shot, but often the lighting just wasn't quite right, and so I kept attempting it, until finally one day I got the desired effect.

Anyone who has come to the Daytona Beach area and hasn't visited this hidden treasure has missed one of central Florida's best kept secrets. This garden is a favorite of area photographers and the local college uses it for its photography school classes. It is also a tranquil and lovely place where many weddings have been performed. The garden chapel was where we had my mom's memorial service last January. Though I don't visit much anymore since I brought Tigger, my cat who lived there for years, home to live with me, I have many memories and probably thousands of pictures to remember it by!
